Columbus Garbage Man Named Driver of the Year
"Lifetime Achievement Award" for the Waste and Recycling Industries
COLUMBUS, Ohio – May 1, 2013 – Darrell Davis is one of the best garbage truck drivers in the U.S.
Davis has been named “Driver of the Year” by the Environmental Industry Associations (EIA), the trade organization for the waste and recycling industries. He drives a Rumpke truck 550 miles per week on average, and hasn’t had a single accident in more than 9 years.
“The Rumpke family name is branded on every truck we operate, and we firmly believe the individuals driving these trucks are extensions of our family. Each day, they define who we are and what we stand for. I can’t think of a better person to represent our family business than Darrell Davis,” said Andrew Rumpke, vice president.
Davis drives a rear load truck in several residential neighborhoods, including Westerville, Dublin, Genoa Township and Reynoldsburg. He is responsible for trash and yard waste collection, depending on the day. He also serves as a driver-trainer for Rumpke.
Davis will be recognized by his peers at Rumpke on Wednesday, April 17 during an employee cookout around 1:30 p.m. at 1191 Fields Ave. in Columbus.
He will also share a national stage with other top drivers from across the country at an industry awards ceremony in May 2013.
Davis has been married for 18 years and has six children and 14 grandchildren.
