Dayton Dragons Recycle More than 40 Percent of Ballpark Waste
DAYTON, Ohio—June 18, 2013—The Dayton Dragons have teamed up with Rumpke to recycle 41 percent of the ballpark’s waste stream every month.
A combination of behind-the-scenes and public recycling efforts recover about 15 tons of recycling every month, which is processed locally at Rumpke Recycling in Dayton.
“As Ohio’s recycling leader, we think recycling should be available at home, school, work and entertainment venues like Fifth Third Field,” said Rumpke Regional Vice President Mike Bramkamp. “Dragons fans can recycle cans, bottles and paper at the game, just like they do at home.”
The material recycled most at the ballpark is cardboard, collected by staff in the offices and concession stands. Fans and staff pitch in 3,000 pounds of cans, bottles and paper per month using recycling containers on the concourse and suite level. Ushers also collect recyclables during the sixth inning.
Rumpke trucks will be on the plaza in front of the ballpark prior to Saturday’s game. The public is welcome to ask questions and even sit in the trucks.
