Local Rumpke Driver Wins National Safety Award
GREENVILLE, Ohio—March 31, 2014—When it comes to safety, the Rumpke guys top the heap.
For the second consecutive year, a driver from Rumpke’s Greenville location will receive a prestigious national safety award. Jim Hawes, who has worked at Rumpke nearly 14 years, is the National Waste and Recycling Association Driver of the Year.
Hawes achieved 12 years without a single accident and was recommended by local businesses for the award. Hawes will accept his award in Atlanta at Waste Expo next month, along with 100 of the best waste and recycling truck drivers from across the country.
“Jim stepped up as a leader from the very first time I met him,” said Rumpke Operations Manager Noel Moomey. “He is always looking out for the best interest of the company as well as his own personal safety and the safety of those around him.”
Starting at 6 a.m., five days per week, Hawes drives a roll off truck to deliver and remove construction dumpsters and compactor boxes. He logs about 40,000 miles annually. Last year, his colleague Tim Taber received the Driver of the Year award.
Hawes resides with his wife in Greenville and enjoys spending time with his granddaughter. He will be recognized by his peers during a luncheon April 11 at Rumpke, 5474 Jaysville-St. Johns Road in Greenville.
The National Waste and Recycling Association is the trade association representing for-profit waste and recycling companies in North America. Each year, the Association selects the safest and most outstanding drivers in several categories to represent the industry. Three Rumpke drivers were selected for 2014.
