Recycling Skyrockets in Geauga and Trumbull Counties

Residents in Geauga and Trumbull counties recycled 954,000 pounds from January to July 2016, surpassing their 2015 total of 946,000 pounds.

Three new collection sites were recently added to meet the growing needs of recyclers:
• Chester Recycle Park (11 containers): 12701 Chillicothe Rd, Chesterland, Ohio 44026
• Trumbull County Engineer’s Office (1 container): 650 North River Road N.W., Warren, Ohio 44483
• Warren G. Harding High School (2 containers): 860 Elm Road NE, Warren, Ohio 44483

Additional containers were also added at existing recycling locations in Burton Township, Champion Township, Hambden Township, McDonald Village, Middlefield Village, Montville Township, Munson Township, Southington Township, TriCounty Technical College and Troy Township.

“The program has been a huge success thanks to residents’ support and our partnership with the district,” said Rumpke Representative Sarah Mathews. “We’ve already recycled more this year than all of 2015, and we still have five months to go.”

The recycling program is provided through a partnership between Rumpke and the Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District. It began in January 2014 with 47 sites and 216 containers. Today the program includes 51 sites and 239 containers throughout the two counties.

“Residents have embraced drop-box recycling and the program helps us reach our recycling goals as a district” said Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste District Director Robert Villers. “It is an easy and convenient way for residents to make a difference.”

The program accepts plastic bottles and jugs, cartons, metal cans, glass bottles and jars, paper and cardboard. Residents should place these recyclables unbagged in the Rumpke recycling container. The recycled material is used to create a variety of new products.

Items that are not on the list should not be placed in the container, including plastic bags, garden hoses, clothing, hangers, chains, hazardous materials, VHS tapes, pressurized tanks or trash.

Rumpke is a family-owned business with a regional operation in Broadview Heights, Ohio. The company partners with solid waste districts, communities and businesses throughout Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and West Virginia to offer recycling services. Rumpke has nearly 2,600 employees. In 2015, Rumpke recycled more than 900 million pounds of materials. For more information, contact us
