COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio –Aug. 25, 2015—Rumpke Waste & Recycling is giving US State Department Fellow Chia Conrad an overview of the waste and recycling industry with tours of its Cincinnati operations, August 24-26.
Conrad is native of Cameroon, Africa, and is a recipient of the Mandela Washington Fellowship award, a prestigious honor awarded by the US State Department to very bright and highly motivated young African leaders.
Coming from a country where open dumps are common, Chia is taking his experiences and knowledge from Rumpke to incorporate similar best practices to improve public health in his homeland.
During his visit, Rumpke provided an overview of modern landfill construction and engineering, landfill gas recovery, recycling technology, hauling and collection equipment, maintenance and assets required to implement and operate a complete environmentally-friendly waste and recycling system.
Conrad began his six week study in Cincinnati with the Municipal Solid District learning about solid waste and waste water management on August 3.
Rumpke’s award-winning landfill and recycling operations are common learning destinations for international visitors. In recent years, Rumpke has hosted government officials and experts from Germany, Russia, Africa, France and Japan and others seeking to develop similar environmental systems in their countries.
